Steve Walters parents had a piano in the garage where he grew up in Wallington, a southern town of London. The garage was seriously cold in the winter months, so practice was not a constant for him. His parents bought him a nylon, acoustic, classical guitar when he was 8 years old, this he could practice in all weather and climates.
Whilst dancing at a party with his parents, he was approached by bass legend Phil Chen to take a private guitar lesson. This sparked Steve’s imagination into the world of bass guitar at nine years of age.
While in school, Steve played music as well as being an England basketball international and captain of his country, which earned him a scholarship at the New York Institute of Technology. It was there his interest in bass guitar led him to meet and study with Jaco Pastorius. He then returned to London to practice fourteen hours a day for two years.
Steve’s first international duty was a combined services entertainment (C.S.E) tour of the Falklands and Ascension Islands.
Steve’s vast resume includes such names as ABC, Amy Winhouse, Angie Stone, Belinda Carlisle, Beverley Knight, Bond, Brian Jackson, Chaka Khan, Everything but the Girl, George Michael, James Taylor Quartet, Jimmy Cliff, M People, Mariah Carey, Mike Garson, Pet Shop Boys, Sir Cliff Richard, Trilok Gurtu, The Waterboys and the X Factor Live Tours.
Steve is currently writing an album of songs influenced by his favourite artists. He is still developing his sound and technology skills to help deliver the best sonic experience on stage and in the studio.
